Finish Off the Cake Table With Skirting

Don't forget the table skirting! Most cake tables are round, square or rectangle. The reception hall always puts a tablecloth on top. They may offer you a choice of colors. Once the tablecloth is on the table, you need to add the finishing touch - the skirting. You must have something covering the sides of the table to the floor. You don’t want the legs of the table to show.

There are endless choices for table skirting. It depends on the theme of the wedding. For instance, a tropical themed wedding could use a grass skirt around the table for the skirting. A winter theme could have skirting with sparkling snowflakes on it. Another idea for a Hawaiian or tropical wedding is using Hawaiian print material for the skirting. Even palm leaves would work for skirting. A castle themed wedding could use a brocade type material with chiffon scarves draped around it. Use your Imagination.

As you can see in the picture, this is your basic cake table skirting. The skirting is usually made out of linen material. This one is pleated. They can also be gathered. If you are doing the decorating yourself, you can purchase paper ones to keep down the cost. The table in the picture looks fine with just the white cake table skirting.

You can very easily dress up the cake table skirting. Try draping ribbons around the table with a bow in front. You can also drape netting around the skirting with lights inside the netting. It gives the table a very magical effect. Ivy hanging down off the table and onto the skirting can set off the cake nicely.

The tablecloth and the cake table skirting do not need to be the same color. This way you can bring in the wedding colors. This looks especially nice with an all white wedding cake.

Using table skirting comes in handy for hiding things under the table. You can put extra napkins, mints and nuts under there so they are handy if you need more. I also put the cake box under the table, so it’s handy to put all the cake accessories in when they cut the cake. No one can see what’s under there with the skirting on.
