Use Fancy Decorating Techniques for Elegant Wedding Cakes

Elegant wedding cakes can be anything from just a few flowers and designs to a cake covered in beading, flowers and intricate frosting decorations.

There is such a thing as a simply elegant wedding cake. You've heard the saying "less is more." Frosting a cake completely smooth and then adding a fresh flower topper and a few flowers going down the sides of the tiers, can be very striking. Another idea is putting scallops of frosting on the tiers of the cake, either in strings or using the star tip in an up and down motion. These give off a nice, clean, crisp look that still looks elegant.

To go up a notch and be even more elegant is to bring in the beading. Usually the white or irredescent beading gives you the most elegant look. You can put the beading in straight rows around the tiers. Then fill in between them with frosting decorations. You can also make scallops with the beads that either accent frosting scallops or they can stand alone. The beading looks best when each scallp comes up to some sort of frosting decoration on the tier. Frosting decorations, such as hearts or bows, can be worked in with the beading.

Now, if you want to go even farther, you can add more beading and frosting decorations that almost give it that old world look. By using bigger frosting tips, you will add a lot more dimension to your cake. Elegant wedding cakes of the 1940's or 50's always had lots of frosting decorations and flowers. You can do that and then add beading to make it look more modern.

It's all up to you and your taste. An elegant wedding cake can be as simple or as elaborate as you want.

There is beading accenting the scsllops and also beading and scallops around the bottom of the cake. I also added some doves. The fresh flowers bring in color and more elegance to the cake.
